The London Luton Airport
Luton is located in the northern part of London. The London Luton Airport used to be named the Luton International Airport but it was renamed to London Luton Airport to show its economic significance to the regional economy and likewise establish its standing in the London airport network. It is actually the fourth largest International Airport in London
This airport was built way back in 1938 as Luton Municipal Airport. It suffered from peaks and valleys because of major airline movements and liquidation of a major airline that used to call on this airport.
Those peaks and valleys have affected the London Luton Airport operations. However, the popularity of this airport as hub to many airlines started to flourish in 1995 when this airport helped to pioneer a new concept known as low cost or no frills flying. EasyJet entered the UK market through London Luton Airport. They still operate well in this airport.
From this point forward, increase in passenger numbers started to rise from 1.9 Million to 3.4 Million in 1998. Ten years after, in 2008, London Luton Airport cross the ten million passengers mark.
London Luton Airport in 2008 served 10.2 million passengers. 95% of the 10.2 million passenger fly on scheduled services going to destinations within Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The remaining 5% of the passengers fly on charter service operated by Monarch as the biggest charter service contributor.
The airport is a public owned and privately operated affording it the growth and infrastructure necessary to prepare it to the increasing number of passengers in the coming years.
Because of the number of passengers moving in and around the airport, you will have to be ready with the challenges such as traffic jams, parking issues and long walks within the terminal.
